Deuteronomy 7:6-8
“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

The Kremlin-appointed Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has vowed to avenge a Ukrainian drone attack that struck a military training facility in Chechnya. The raid, which appears to be the first of its kind to hit the southern Russian republic, is one of the longest-range drone strikes that Ukraine has attempted. The target was a special forces training center, but the attack also carries significant symbolic value, due to the high level of support of local strongman Ramzan Kadyrov for Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Imagery posted to social media shows the apparent aftermath of the drone strike, on the military training academy in the town of Gudermes, 22 miles east of Grozny, the Chechen capital. As we have discussed in the past, Kadyrov was directly responsible for the creation of the Russian University of Special Forces — also known as the University of Spetsnaz — in Gudermes in 2013.

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko discussed the Ukraine crisis in talks on Wednesday and Wang reaffirmed Beijing's strong ties with Moscow, the Chinese foreign ministry said.

Wang reiterated China and Russia's strong relations, that were not affected by "changes in the international situation".

"Both sides should make joint efforts to coordinate cooperation in various fields and exchanges at all levels," he said, without elaboration.

The visit takes place as Russia's war in Ukraine appeared to take a dangerous new turn, with NATO and South Korea expressing alarm that North Korean troops could soon be joining Moscow's side.
Rudenko said that countries of the post-Soviet space will always be among Russia's geopolitical priorities.

"Wherever these countries go, no matter how they develop, they will always be a priority, among our geopolitical priorities, regardless of the geopolitical context," RIA cited Rudenko

Hezbollah's new leader Naim Qassem on Wednesday said the group would agree to a ceasefire with Israel under acceptable terms, but added that a viable deal has yet to be presented.

Qassem, who was named Hezbollah secretary-general on Tuesday, did not explicitly link a Lebanon ceasefire to an end to fighting in Gaza.

"If the Israelis decide that they want to stop the aggression, we say we accept, but under the conditions that we see as appropriate and suitable," Qassem said in a pre-recorded speech.

But Hezbollah "will not beg for a ceasefire", he added, noting that political efforts to secure a deal have yet to yield results.

"No project has been proposed that Israel agrees to and that we can discuss," he said.
Qassem replaces Hassan Nasrallah who was assassinated by Israel.
"Get out of our land to reduce your losses. If you stay, you will pay more than you have ever paid in your life," adding that Hezbollah could sustain fighting "for days, weeks and months"

China stopped tourists after I refused to betray Taiwan, says Palau president.
The message from the government official was simple: endorse China or face the consequences.

Mr Whipps was only a candidate for the presidency at the time and was told to immediately sever Palau’s diplomatic relations with Taiwan if he won.

Failure to switch his nation’s recognition to Beijing, the ambassador stressed, could mean the tens of thousands of Chinese tourists, who were bringing much-needed revenue into Palau’s tourism sector, going somewhere else.

“His words were, ‘You’re a businessman, you understand the potential of the Chinese market, how many tourists you can have’,” Mr Whipps

“I let him know that we were keen to have visitors from everywhere and that we are friends to everyone, but the conversation quickly turned to him saying that Palau needs to join the rest of the world by stopping ‘illegal activities’ by recognising Taiwan,” he said.

North Korea fired a long-range ballistic missile into the sea off its east coast on Thursday, South Korea and Japan said, a day after Seoul reported the North was making preparations to test-launch an intercontinental ballistic missile.

The launch, at a sharply raised angle, was from an area near the North's capital, Pyongyang, at 7:10 a.m. (2210 GMT), the Joint Chiefs said in a statement. The Japanese government later said the missile dropped into the sea at 8:37 a.m. (2337 GMT).

"It is believed the North Korea ballistic missile is a long-range ballistic missile fired at a high angle," the Joint Chiefs of Staff

Earlier, the Japanese government said the missile was expected to land about 300 km (190 miles) west of its Okushiri Island off its northern Hokkaido region, outside its exclusive economic zone and towards the Russian coast.

Defence Minister Gen Nakatani said Japan strongly condemns the North's action, which threatened not only Japan but also the international commu

China's warplanes have all but erased the dividing line in the Taiwan Strait, creating a dangerous new normal.
China's military has flown into Taiwan's ADIZ almost every day since 2020.

Crossings of the median line have soared, effectively erasing it altogether.

The incursions, as well as large-scale military drills, wear down Taiwan's military.

China's warplanes are pressuring Taiwan and have all but eliminated an important dividing line, with near-daily incursions creating a dangerous new normal.

Since 2020, Taiwan has released regular, almost daily updates on incursions in its air defense identification zone by Chinese military aircraft. It has also documented continuous Chinese efforts to degrade the Taiwan Strait median line established in 1955.
China's military incursions into Taiwan's ADIZ and its crossings of the median line in the Taiwan Strait have skyrocketed, with the ADIZ incursions climbing from an average of 2.56 aircraft per day four years ago to 11.63 now

Lebanon's prime minister said US envoy Amos Hochstein had signalled during a phone call Wednesday that a ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war was possible before US elections are held on November 5.

"The call today with Hochstein suggested to me that perhaps we could reach a ceasefire in the coming days, before the fifth" of November, Najib Mikati said in a televised interview with Lebanese broadcaster Al-Jadeed

Hochstein was heading to Israel on Wednesday to discuss conditions for a ceasefire with Hezbollah, State Department.

Hezbollah's new leader Naim Qassem on Wednesday said the group would agree to a ceasefire with Israel under acceptable terms, but added that a viable deal has yet to be presented

"We are doing our best... to have a ceasefire within the coming hours or days," Mikati told Al-Jadeed, adding that he was "cautiously optimistic"

Mikati said Hezbollah is no longer linking a ceasefire in Lebanon to a truce in Gaza, but criticised the group over its "late"

Some 10,000 North Korean troops were already in eastern Russia and it appeared likely that they would be used to support combat operations in Russia's Kursk region, near the border with Ukraine, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Wednesday.

Nebenzia said Russia's military interaction with North Korea does not violate international law. Russia has not denied the involvement of North Korean troops in the war, which it has been waging in Ukraine since February 2022.

"Even if everything that's being said about the cooperation between Russia and North Korea by our Western colleagues is true, why is it that the United States and allies are trying to impose on everyone the flawed logic that they have the right to help the Zelenskiy regime ... and Russian allies have no right to do a similar thing," Nebenzia said.

Russia's envoy to the United Nations on Wednesday questioned why its allies like North Korea could not help Moscow in its war against Ukraine given Western countries claim the right to help Kyiv.

Vassily Nebenzia faced a blunt argument at a Security Council meeting from the United States, Britain, South Korea, Ukraine and others, who all accused Russia of violating U.N. resolutions and the founding U.N. Charter with the deployment of troops from North Korea (DPRK) to help Moscow.

"Supporting an act of aggression, which completely violates the principles of the U.N. Charter, is illegal," South Korea's U.N. Ambassador Joonkook Hwang said. "Any activities that are entailed with the DPRK's dispatch of troops to Russia are clear violations of multiple U.N. Security Council Resolutions."

Israel's weapon of choice in its attack on Iran was the air-launched ballistic missile.

These allowed Israel to strike Iran rapidly and with minimum risk to its own aircraft.

Air-launched missiles have many advantages over ground-fired ones.

Over 100 Israeli fighter jets attacked 20 targets inside Iran, ranging from its top air defense systems to key missile manufacturing facilities, early on October 26. Their weapon of choice: Air-launched ballistic missiles.

These allowed Israeli jets to strike largely from beyond the reach of Iran's defenses and with fast flight paths, likely from neighboring Iraq, that complicated efforts to shoot them down.

"It appears that Israel's use of air-launched ballistic missiles played a critical role in targeting and disabling Iran's air defense systems during the recent operation," Freddy Khoueiry, a global security analyst for the Middle East and North Africa at the risk intelligence company RANE
