The FBI said Friday that it was investigating offensive email messages sent to members of the Hispanic and LGBTQ communities in addition to a wave of racist text messages sent out to Black Americans.
"The text message recipients have now expanded to high school students, as well as both the Hispanic and LGBTQIA+ communities," the FBI said in a statement posted to its website. "Some recipients reported being told they were selected for deportation or to report to a re-education camp. The messages have also been reported as being received via email communication."
Earlier this week, the FBI said it was looking into a series of racist text messages that were sent out to numerous people from an unknown number this week. The messages included the recipient’s name and had references to “picking cotton.”
The text messages were reported in several states, including New York, the District of Columbia, California, Nevada, Louisiana, Alabama, Virginia, Kansas and Ge
